ELIMINATION ROUNDS SET FOR 25TH ANNUAL CALIFORNIA HOT ROD REUNION PRESENTED BY AUTOMOBILE CLUB OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Action at the 25th annual California Hot Rod Reunion presented by Automobile Club of Southern California continued on Saturday at Auto Club Famoso Raceway. Thrilling racing on track and a full display of California car culture off track was featured throughout the second day of the tradition-rich three-day event.

Exciting quarter-mile drag racing resumed Saturday morning and was highlighted by the final rounds of qualifying in nostalgia Top Fuel and Funny Car.  In Top Fuel, Tony Bartone of Long Island City, N.Y., powered to the No. 1 qualifier with a 5.574-second pass at 239.06 mph. He will open eliminations against Bret Williamson from Gilroy, Calif. Other first round matchups include Jim Murphy vs. Rick McGee, Adam Sorokin vs. Rick Williamson and Bill Dunlap vs. Dusty Green.

In Funny Car, Jason Rupert, from Yorba Linda, Calif., sprinted the No. 1 spot with a 5.605 at 256.94. He went on to defeat James Day in the first round of eliminations and will face John Weaver when eliminations continue on Sunday. Other second round matchups in Funny Car include Rick Rogers vs. Tim Nemeth, Ryan Hodgson vs. Steven Densham and Kris Krabill vs. Cory Lee.

Once racing concluded on Saturday, the California Hot Rod Reunion put on a special twilight memorial and honoree presentation. To celebrate the silver anniversary of the special event, all of the Grand Marshals and Honorees from the past 24 years were invited back to participate in the extravaganza.

Saturday’s action wrapped up when the famous Cacklefest closed out the evening’s festivities. Dozens of nostalgia Top Fuel and Funny Cars thundered to life harmoniously and filled Auto Club Famoso Raceway with sights, sounds and clouds of nitro. The fan-favorite Cacklefest is a one-of-a-kind spectacle drag racing fans from all over the world come to see.

On Sunday, Oct. 23, the California Hot Rod Reunion presented by Automobile Club of Southern California concludes with the crowning of champions in each of the racing categories as well as the Hot Rod Heritage Series Champions taking stage. Pre-race ceremonies are set to begin at 10:45 a.m.
